Going against the grain, I do not want to be melodramatic and make a huge deal of this. I am a drama queen and usually put a lot of effort into the first day but because of COVID, it is not really the same. Regardless, I did have an AMAZING day!
The move-in process was so tedious and stressful but luckily my family helped me. I love the layout of the dorms here. It is an apartment-style where you have your individual room but still share a common living area, kitchen, and bathroom with your roommates. Personally, my roommates are so cool and I can’t wait to live with them for the rest of the year. Our dorm is not the “cutest” but it definitely represents our personalities.
For the first day, I did get dressed; I only had one class in person and the rest were online. Unlike high school, I was not worried about my lunch period or where I was going to sit. I was more worried about how scary my professors were going to be and if I was going to look under-qualified in comparison to my peers. Luckily, most of my professors already had us split into groups for the semester which definitely relieved some of the stress of making new friends.
My peer mentors Matthew and Priscilla are the most supportive. I did talk to them about my fears and they definitely helped ease them by giving me some useful tips and encouraging words. My college advisor also reached out and helped make sure I was ready for the first day. I love how the people on this campus are so welcoming and eager to help.

As the semester continues, I need to keep my eye out for student organizations. I know I am interested in Model United Nations, Women of Honor, and the African Student Association. Hopefully, I can attend the interest meetings and increase my involvement in these organizations during my college career.
Overall, I had a great first day. There aren’t a lot of people on campus now, but the vibe is still very positive. My professors are all super kind and definitely allow their personalities to shine through their lectures and assignments. I am not sure if it is a generational thing, but the few people I have met in my classes have similar humor to me and we already get along so well. I can’t wait to meet with my mentors again and update them on everything that is going on. I am so excited to see where this semester goes! :)
