Hey, y’all! It is so great to be in a new month! February is one of my favorite months of the year and I am super excited to see what we do this month. I absolutely love valentines day and find some way to celebrate it each year so this year will be super interesting. However, now that January is over we have finally gotten back into the full swing of classes this semester. Over the last year, I have obtained a new mindset and hope to apply this to my classes this semester.
UTSA is going back in person this week, so this is a great turning point in the semester. However, when starting a new semester it can be overwhelming to get the hang of things without falling behind in your classes. However, once you work out a system that works for you it gets so much easier. Here are a couple of ways that I get ready for a new semester.
Look at Your Classes.
Know the course name and professor. I recommend googling the name of the course to get some more information about what the course will entail so you have a good idea of what to expect. I usually have a vague idea of what classes I am taking after registration so going over the classes and refreshing yourself on the subject matter is a great idea.
Gather School Supplies
Only gather the essentials you need for the new semester. For me, this is a new planner and calendar, pens, highlighters, and textbooks. I also have some more personal items to make sure my bag is prepped. So normally in my bag I have lotion, perfume, hand sanitizer, masks, brushes, and some makeup. The most inconvenient thing is to desperately need something and not have it at the time. Then you need to find time to go to the store and it can add extra stress to an already tight situation. So taking time before the semester starts to get all these things will help future you!

Get Back into a Schedule
This is the hardest thing for me to do! During the break, I usually deviate from my daily schedule and live without structure. Before the semester starts, get back into that routine. Go to bed on time, regulate your meals, wake up early. Go back to a structure so your body does not have to do a hard adjustment when classes start.
This also means planning a new schedule. You’re taking new classes at different times on different days. I take my calendar and fill in all my class times, org meetings, vacations, and other important dates. This way I have a good weekly overview and can prep my mind of how my week is going to go.
Renew and Refresh
This is my favorite part, some would say I am an expert at this. Before a new semester, you want to renew and refresh. I look at all aspects of my life and find a way to renew and refresh. In my home, I clean up, organize, and decorate. In my closet, I clean out some old pieces and get new ones. In my finances, I set a new budget and set saving goals. This takes the longest time but it’s so worth it. It sets a new tone for the semester and removes the extra clutter from your mind and space.
This new semester is filled with new opportunities and memories. Please feel free to share how you prep for a new semester. Thank you loves!
