1. Find good friends who will motivate you to do your best!

Being in Zoom University, it can be difficult to find the motivation needed to do your best. It is easy to skip class and there is a lot of time management and self-responsibility that is required to succeed. Everyone has trouble finding that extra bump of energy to finish the semester strong. Surrounding yourself with friends who have similar goals and want to see you succeed is the best thing you can do! When you can’t find the strength to go on, they will help push you to the finish line.

2. Everyone is in the same boat as you.

I used to be so scared because everyone seemed like they knew what they were doing. But one important thing to remember is that we are all college students going through similar academic pressures. Not only that, but everyone is looking for friends. So while I feel alone, I am not the only one. It is easy to make friends just relax and put yourself out there.

3. Make good connections in each class.

In college classes, especially in ones related to your major, you are going to see your classmates a lot. Making some friends in each of your classes will help you feel more comfortable with your major selection. Also, you will probably see your current peers in future senior seminars or even grad (med/law) school! Make friends with the people who will most likely be in your future career path. They will help keep you focused and can possibly lead to great connections in the future.

4. Being an adult is expensive.

Money IS an object! Living with my parents I spent my money more frivolously because I did not have to worry about groceries or any sort of bills. I would only spend money on things I wanted like new clothes, fast food, presents, etc. Living alone has forced me to keep a tight budget. Sure, I still buy waaaay too many clothes online, but I am definitely limiting my spending so I can eat dinner and pay for school.

5. High school teachers are so dramatic!

“yOuR cOlLege pRofESSorS WilL nOt tOleRAtE tHiS!” Teachers in high school were so dramatic about college. They make it sound as if the professors are going to be cold and lifeless. The professors set up their classes and expect you to take advantage of the opportunities given to you. In college, the responsibility is mostly placed on you rather than the administration. Just take care of your stuff and you will be fine. Most professors are indifferent to most things. Some professors are super cool and go out of their way to make the class more interesting with funny demonstrations or jokes throughout the lectures. There is always nuance to these statements but overall college professors are not as cold-hearted as they are made out to seem.
