Hello Loves! I hope everyone is having a refreshing break from school. This semester the Lord has really stretched me and helped me deepen my friendships. I have had some hard conversations but I also made new friends. My word for this semester has been “honor”. I did a word study and got to learn more about what the bible says about honor. This is definitely a word used a lot in the Christian community. We hold each other to uphold a culture of honor but we explain it with other maxims that do not fully get to the definition. So, what is honor?
Honor is marked by treating people with respect, kindness, and fairness. Honor is more than nice words and compliments it requires that you hold each other in high esteem, which means believing the best in people. Honor is truly believing and accepting that a person is more than what they can give you and appreciating them for who the Lord created them to be.
Honor is a topic that is widely discussed throughout the bible. It is first mentioned in the ten commandments (Exodus 20) and is carried throughout in many different relations.
Parents (Exodus 20:12)
Employers/Employees (Colossians 3:22-23, 4:1)
Church Leaders (1 Timothy 5:17)
Government Leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2, Romans 13:1-7)
Everyone (1 Peter 2:17)
However, more importantly, honor is due to God. We can honor Him in every part of our life
1 Timothy 1:17, Revelation 5:13, Colossians 3:17, Proverbs 14:31, Romans 12:1, Proverbs 3:9, Hebrews 13:4)
Honoring others is a reflection of how we honor God.
The best example we have is Jesus. He honored His disciples and all the people he came into contact with so well. Which was so uncommon at the time. He set an example that ALL people, regardless of age, race, power, etc. are worthy of honor and respect.
Honestly, honor is such a big topic that is a defining part of what walking with God looks like. So I could go on and really talk about it but I want to take this time to honor some of my friends and appreciate them!
Yabba

Yabba is kind, sweet, and loving. She is the perfect example of what it means to be generous. She gives sacrificially and is willing to help anyone in need. She is a great learner! She always asks questions and ultimately wants to learn more about the Lord every day. She exemplifies what it means to have a pure heart and renewed mind. She thinks of the best in people and knows how to honor them well.
Cambria

Cambria is honest and intentional. She loves her friends so well and knows exactly how to serve them. She values intentional conversations! She brings the Lord into each conversation. She places the Lord at the center of everything she does, including her relationships. She teaches me so much about valuing the Lord’s voice over anyone or anything else. She is such a fighter and knows how to endure for the Lord.
Emma

Emma is so humble! She is smart, kind, pretty, and can do some crazy athletic things. She has taught me so much about humility just from being around her. She always submits to the will of God in any situation. Her ability to humble herself to the will of the Lord allows her to humble herself around other people. She knows how to be a good friend! She has a desire to know you for who the Lord has made you to be. She has taught me so much about discipleship.
All these girls push me closer to the Lord and I am thankful to Him for our friendships. They have honored me well and they dedicate their lives to honor Jesus well. I love them so much! God has taught me about the importance of honor so take some time this week to honor someone in your life!
